TRENDS MAXIMALIST BEAUTY, ARTISTIC UPDOS, BLOOMING LIPS
This month, the beauty trends were led by looks created for the New York Fashion Week SS25 runways. The Maximalist Beauty trend led the way with dramatic Caviar Lips at AREA and silver-line accents at Nanushka. The Artistic Updos trend also made a statement, featuring cord-wrapped ponytails at Off-White and intricate fishtail braid buns at Ulla Johnson. Finally, the Blooming Lips trend, defined by romantic, diffused color, gained attention at Ulla Johnson’s show and complements the viral Blurred Lips trend on TikTok, with both showcasing soft edges in unique ways.
As we continue to dive into new trends each month, we'll explore how influencers and brands are shaping the future of beauty, providing you with the latest updates to inspire your content creation strategies, from newsletters to social media posts.
At New York Fashion Week SS25, Maximalist Beauty has been revived, with bold features taking center stage across the runways. At the AREA (@area) show, makeup artist Yadim Carranza (@yad1m) introduced a glam to goth look. The makeup, which was under the direction of MAC Cosmetics (@maccosmeticsusa), focused on bold Caviar Lips (a blend of an un-released Root For Me Lip Liner and MACximal Antique Velvet Matte Lipstick) and high-shine smoky eyes. “There’s a juxtaposition between high incredible glam and raw skin,” a global senior artist for the brand shared with Marie Claire.
Meanwhile at the Nanushka (@nanushka) fashion show, makeup artist Fara Homidi (@farahomidi) applied silver lines that ran down the center of the lips, over the nose, and from the eyes, as highlighted in NYLON. In partnership with Omorovicza skincare (@omorovicza), Nanushka's show emphasized the importance of skincare as the base for this trend. When bold, high-impact elements like silver face art are in focus, perfectly prepped and radiant skin ensures these maximalist details take center stage.
Both AREA's dramatic goth-glam makeup and Nanushka's abstract silver stones perfectly showcase the Maximalist Beauty trend — a bold, artistic approach that pushes the boundaries of traditional beauty, while maintaining fresh skin for a modern finish.

According to Bustle, Artistic Updos are one of New York Fashion Week SS25's biggest beauty trends. At Off-White’s (@off____white) "DUTY FREE" show in Brooklyn Park, hair stylist Jawara (@jawaraw) created double ponytails, complete with colorful cords wrapped around the strands. This trend was also seen at the Ulla Johnson SS25 show, where Oribe Session stylist Joey George (@joeygeorge), inspired by the bold artistry of Lee Krasner, crafted intricate S-shaped buns by blending two fishtail braids in an artistic twist. Influencers like Remi Bader (@remibader) and Danielle Carolan (@daniellecarolan) were also spotted sporting the Artistic Updos trend at NYFW, making a statement off the runway.
Maximalist Beauty Blooming Lips
This trend focuses on creating a blurred, gradient effect, often starting with deeper color at the center of the lips and fading outwards, offering a fresh and romantic alternative to sharp lip liners or overdrawn lips, as explained by Who What Wear. At the Ulla Johnson (@ullajohnson) show, makeup artist Romy Soleimani (@romyglow) brought the Blooming Lips trend to life with a fuchsia shade (the Sisley Paris Lip Twist Matte in the shade Kiss), which she notes is "really sexy for spring," perfectly complementing the brand's romantic and ethereal designs.
The Blooming Lips look also aligns with the growing popularity of the Blurry Lip trend seen on TikTok, where beauty influencers like Marcela Alcala (@mexicanbutjapanese) and Katie Jane Hughes (@katiejanehughes) have embraced its soft, low-maintenance appeal. With its emphasis on an imperfect, smudged lip that doesn’t require precision, the trend has become a favorite for those seeking a more natural, effortless finish. Both trends aim for soft, natural edges rather than crisp, sharp lip lines; however, the Blooming Lips tend to be slightly more vibrant and romantic, while Blurred Lips are more gradient and understated.
This Blooming Lips runway moment showcases how trends can effortlessly transition from social media tutorials to high-fashion runways, and cements its place as one of the season's most versatile beauty trends.
